In February I picked up an old china cabinet from my local library for the bargain deal of $20. They even delivered!
In the beginning it was ugly. Really ugly. It took me hours to get all the hinges off because the screws were stripped and stuck. I never did figure out how to get out the middle glass panel and didn’t want to chance breaking it. I sanded and sanded and then lost my sander. Still can’t find it.
Then I painted. And painted. And painted.
Turns out the white, slightly clumpy white baseboard paint I was trying to use up just soaked into the old wood. Some of the yellow aging still shows through after 6 coats!
But after many coats I managed to get it “good enough” and moved it inside.
The doors took a little more finesse as they can’t be too thick on the edges or the doors won’t fit.
Finally the doors were done so I picked up new screws and door knobs. And I installed the contact paper for the backsplash.
I filled the cabinet with my favorite collections, the yellow dishes,
my China setting partially inherited from my late Grandma,
and some random pieces I’ve picked up over the last few years:
and the bottom cabinets are great for storing excess china (I have 24 place settings…) and snacks,
My costs were $3.77 x 2 for screws (two sizes) = $7.54, $2.00 apiece for 8 knobs for a total of $16.

nice job!
